Drumright's Kayla Cupples - Athlete Spotlight Presented By Cowboy Driving Academy
The future graduate of Drumright High School, Kayla Cupples may not have enjoyed the senior season she was expecting, but her 13 years on the pitch and the last three with her teammates were special for the senior.
“My team and I have grown up together and played together for many years. The thing I love most about my team is that I am able to play with my closest friends, and we always have each other’s backs no matter what,” said Cupples.
Mainly a defender for Drumright, Cupples has played nearly every position on the field at one time or another.
“I have played soccer for 13 years and I can play every position, but I mainly play defender,” said Cupples.
As a student-athlete, Cupples is focused on making a good grades and preparing herself for the next chapter of life, which will include college.
“My favorite subject is science, specifically biology, because I enjoy the always changing environment and how there is always something that needs solving. I have a lot of favorite teachers who have pushed me, but my all time favorite teacher at Drumright is my math teacher, Ms. Brown. She has showed me that I am capable of whatever I put my mind to and she has pushed me to always be better than the person I was yesterday,” said Cupples. “After I graduate, I plan to attend the University of Oklahoma and major in pre-med, so that one day I can become a pediatrician.”
Cupples said her family and coaches have played a big role in her life, on and off the field.
“I could name a lot of people who have influenced my life on and off the field but the two main people in my life who have made an impact is my dad and my coach. My dad used to coach me as a kid, even if he was learning with us and it showed me to never be afraid to try new things if you love it. My mom and dad have always been my number one supporters and they fail never to make a game,” said Cupples. “My coach, Mike Ledgerwood, has pushed me to be better not only on the field, but in school also. He has taught me that giving up is never the answer and to push harder even when you feel that you are not able to. He has also taught me to work hard whether someone is watching or not and to always be humble.”
