Stillwater's Janet Stewart – Mom of the Month Spotlight Presented by Stillwater Women's Clinic
By Travis Sloat
Janet Stewart is not someone who takes life lying down. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a time when she’s even sitting down.
A rather quick and short summary of Stewart's schedule involves many activities at Stillwater High School.
“I’ve served on the PTA at Stillwater High for the last six years,” Stewart said. "I’ve been active in the Stillwater Volleyball Booster Club for seven years, and I served as the president last year.”
Stewart is also active in a traveling women’s volleyball league, works full time as an Oklahoma Conservation Attorney, is on the Lake McMurtry board, the CRUSH Volleyball Club board, and also serves as a CASA volunteer.
Stewart said she didn’t fully realize her passion for service until someone was vacating an elementary PTA position and she was asked to help.
“Getting involved in that really spurred me to volunteer,” she said. "Luckily it came about when my traveling for work slowed significantly. It also helped that I was surrounded by others that were giving and helpful. Not feeling burnout is a struggle, but I really try to approach each need one step at a time.”
Stewart’s two daughters, Brenna and Savanna, have passed through the halls at Stillwater High School. The youngest will graduate in May and Stewart says she looks forward to having more “me time” but also plans to remain active in the Stillwater community.
“I’m lucky to be surrounded by so many great people including my husband Montie and both of my kids,” she said. “I just want to tell everyone on my teams thank you.”
